A traditional English Oval basket made from local Somerset willow to an ‘Old English’ design , a great basket for foraging , mushroom pickers and many other uses .
size is 14”” long x 10 1/2”” wide, 5 1/2” deep at handle and 12” top of handle approx.
The willow is Somerset ‘Brittany Green’ natural willow for a strong and long lasting basket . The base of this Oval basket is made using an English underfoot method of tying in the SLATH ( base) a technique that can take many years to perfect , this is the foundation of the basket and will provide many years service when done correctly. Historically apprentice basket makers would spend one year making bases before moving on to the next part!
The underfoot base is an English method of basketmaking and the practice is slowly being eroded with alternative non native methods.
