Bespoke storage baskets - made to measure storage solutions for your home using locally sourced Somerset willow in a variety of different natural colours and textures. Hand crafted in Wiltshire by Geoff Travers with over 40 years experience in traditional English basket making.
There are three main types of willow I use for storage baskets all sourced locally or UK only :
Brown willow is willow with its bark on and comes in a variety of different colours from dark brown to yellow/green with many different names to include - Flanders Red , Brittany Green, Black Maul , Dicky Meadows and many more.
Buff Willow is willow that has been boiled for several hours then stripped of its bark - this is the most common willow used in basketmaking which combines strength and longevity . When combined with brown willow makes contemporary and unique baskets.
White willow is willow is ‘pitted’ in winter ( left standing in water until the sap rises in spring) The willow is then stripped of its bark without boiling.
The majority of storage baskets I make are designed to fit in / under something and require a higher level of basketmaking than other types of baskets.
It is important to establish accurate measurements at the beginning of the process.
